Helen Florence Acheson

July 24, 1917 — May 31, 2016

Helen F. Acheson was born on July 24, 1917 to Herman and Elsie Pagenkopf in the Town of Grant, Clark Co. She attended the Washington School in the Town of Grant and St. John's Lutheran School. She graduated from Neillsville School in 1935. She worked for the Clark Co. Welfare Dept. as a stenographer for ten years. On December 16, 1945 she married Don Acheson at St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Winona, MN. She farmed with her husband near Christie until his death in 1985. She continued to live on the farm and worked 16 years for the Neillsville School; retiring in 2004 at the age of eighty six.Helen was active in the community and fundraising. She was a member of the Clark Co. Farm Bureau. She served as treasurer for the Christie School, was a 4-H leader for the Happy Valley 4-H Club, and was a member of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. For over fifty years Helen was a member of the Happy Homemaker's Club. Helen was a member of the United Church of Christ and the Circle of Friends. Helen loved animals, flowers and berry bushes. She cherished sheep. She enjoyed baking and doing field work; especially driving tractors.Helen is survived by her twin daughters, Pat Acheson (Herman Seebandt), Pam Acheson (Pat Kane), four step grandchildren, Garret, Marie, Clarice and Elice, four step great grandchildren, two nephews, three nieces and members of the Mc Elroy and Mohr families.Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Don in 1985, her parents, a brother, Victor Pagenkopf and an infant brother, Leo.Funeral Services for Helen will be held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, June 5, 2016 at the United Church of Christ in Neillsville. Pastor Jacoba Koppert will officiate. Interment will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m., to 1:00 p.m., Sunday at the church. Following the service and interment there will be a meal served at the Neillsville American Legion Hall, honoring Helen and Don Acheson.Honorary casket bearers are: Duane Boon and Art Luedeke.Casket bearers are: Keith Decorah, Kelvin Decorah, Terry Byrne, Stephen High, Ken Shirk and Dale Shirk.Memorials can be given to the UCC Circle of Friends and the Clark County Humane Society.Online Condolences may be made at www.geschefh.com.
