Alvin Hanson, age 81, of Granton, WI died Saturday, December 31, 2011 at the Neillsville Care and Rehabilitation Center in Neillsville, WI.Alvin Clayton Hanson was born on December 23, 1930 to Archie and Leva (Halvorson) Hanson in Taylor, WI. He attended Taylor schools and then worked at General Motors in Janesville, WI until entering the United States Army in 1951. He was united in marriage to Virginia Berg on December 8, 1951 and they lived in Fayetteville, NC, while Alvin was serving in the 82nd Airborne.Upon his discharge from the Army, Alvin returned to General Motors and worked there until 1956 when he went to work for Tri-State Breeders (now known as Accelerated Genetics). They moved to Granton in 1958 and Alvin continued to work as an artificial inseminator. Later, he became District Supervisor and eventually put on schools for the trade in the United States, Mexico and South America. After retirement, for several years, he and Virginia would head to Dillon, MT for the month of May, where Alvin would breed cows on two ranches.Alvin was a member of the Granton Rotary and a life-member of the FFA Alumni. He served on the Granton Village Board, the Granton Park, the Fire Department and the Zion American Lutheran Church Council. He is survived by his wife, Virginia, three sons, Dan (Mary Jo) Hanson of Savage, MN, Allan (Lou Ann) Hanson of Loyal, WI and Bruce (Sheri) Hanson of Granton, WI. Four Grandchildren, Chelsie (Devon) Gawne-Mark, Erin (Tony) Passon, Josh and Jamie Hanson, two brothers, Artis (Elayne) Hanson of Portage, WI and Dean Hanson of Taylor, WI, one sister, Donna (Don) Larson of Alma Center, WI and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Marie Wheelock, a brother, Archie LaVerne Hanson and a sister-in-law, Janice Hanson.Funeral Services for Alvin will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 5, 2012 at the Zion American Lutheran Church in Granton. Pastor Bob Garbisch will officiate. Music will be provided by Marjorie Dahl, organist. Military Honors will be accorded by the Loyal Veteran's Council. Interment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Taylor, WI at a later date.
