Mary Ellen Johnson

Mary Ellen Johnson, age 76, of Neillsville, WI died Monday, March 1, 2010 at the Memorial Health and Rehabilitation Center in Neillsville.Mary Ellen Holt was born on November 10, 1933 in Neillsville, WI the daughter of Albert William and Fern Mabel (Olson) Holt. She graduated from Neillsville High School and then worked at the County Nurses office. On March 29, 1952 she was united in marriage to Gerald Jerry Johnson in Neillsville. Mary Ellen then stopped working to raise their two children. Later, she went to work at the condensory in Neillsville and from there to the Neillsville Clinic for 9 years until health problems forced her to retire in 1979. After retirement she assisted her husband at Russell Memorial Park Camp Ground for 14 years.She was a member of the United Church of Christ and a member of the Prayer Chain and the Care and Share Program at the Church. She was also a member of the Good Homemakers Club.She is survived by her husband, Gerald Jerry Johnson, children, Steven (Donna) Johnson of Neillsville and Leeann (LeRoy) Krall of West Salem, WI, three grandchildren, Ryan (fiance April Stueck) Krall of Eau Claire, WI and Nate (girlfriend, Jenna Berg) Krall of Marshfield, WI and Christie (James) Gassen of Scott Air Force Base, IL, one great-grandchild, Mathias Gassen. She is also survived by one brother, Bill Holt of Sarona, WI and three sisters, Shirley (Robert) Zager of St. Cloud, MN, Nancy (Edward) Tresemer of Neillsville and Kay (Bill) Kent of Winona, MN, and a brother-in-law, Louis Henchen of Neillsville and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Barbara Henchen.Funeral Services for Mary Ellen will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 6, 2010 at the United Church of Christ in Neillsville. Pastor Douglas Bjerke will officiate. Interment will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday at the Gesche Funeral Home and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday at the United Church of Christ.Casket Bearers will be family and friends.In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Clark County Humane Society, W3926 St. Hwy 23, Neillsville, WI54456 or the Neillsville Library, 409 Hewett St., Neillsville, WI 54456 or the United Church of Christ Memorial Fund, 515 W. 2nd St., Neillsville, WI54456.
