Arlene Gladys Hasz

June 14, 1919 — February 18, 2019

MARSHFIELD — Arlene Gladys (Lindow) Hasz, 99, Marshfield (formerly of Granton), died early Monday morning, February 18th at the House of the Dove, in Marshfield.

She was born June 14, 1919, on a farm in the Town of Freemont, Clark County, one of four children of Arthur and Esther (Schilling) Lindow.

Arlene attended the Cozy Corners School in the Town of Fremont. After graduating from Granton High School in 1936, she continued to live with her parents until she married Otto Hasz of the town of Lynn, Granton, on May 18, 1941.

Otto and Arlene started farming north of Granton on Romadka Road after their marriage. In 1947, they moved to their farm east of Granton on U.S. Hwy. 10.  She made her home here until 2015 when she moved to Cedar Rail Apartments in Marshfield.

Arlene was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Granton.   She helped Otto with the lawn care for the church cemetery during the eight years that he served as church cemetery sexton.

She was also very active for many years and served in numerous offices of the Zion Lutheran Ladies Aid.  She helped cook and serve many weddings, funerals, and other special occasions hosted by the Ladies Aid.  But for many years was known as the “card lady” who ordered the many greeting cards and Christmas cards for the Ladies Aid.  In addition to the Ladies Aid, she was active in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and helped with many of the Pancake

Suppers.

Throughout her life, she also was a leader of the Lynn Busy Beaver 4-H Club, and assisted Otto with roll of secretary/treasurer for the Lynn Telephone Company.

One of Arlene’s greatest loves was sewing quilts for the many charities through the church… Orphan Grain Train, World Relief, and more recently for the Food Pantry in Granton.  When asked how many she had made, she responded, “Too many to count.”  But those close to her knew it was in the hundreds.

Survivors include two of her children, Donna (James) Zwicke and Vickie (Donald) Schnitzler, both of Marshfield; seven grandchildren...Brian Zwicke, Elysian, MN; Roxane Nordbeck, Wisconsin Rapids; Michael Zwicke, Fond du Lac; Jason Hasz, Granton, Nicholas Hasz, Eau Claire; Andrew Schnitzler, Marshfield; and Holly Schnitzler, Rochester, MN; great-grandchildren and  great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Esther Lindow; her husband, Otto Hasz; an infant brother, Elmer Lindow;  two sisters, Ethelyn Draheim and Geneva Elliot; and a son, James Hasz.

Services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, February 22, 2019 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Granton. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
