Joseph Dachel, age 89, of Granton, WI, died Friday, March 28, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
Joseph Herman Dachel was born on February 2, 1936, in Wisconsin Rapids, WI, the son of Albert W. and Elizabeth J. (Kreutzer) Dachel. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from UW-Stevens Point, and later a Master's Degree from UW-Superior. On August 25, 1962, he was united in marriage to Donna M. Weaver at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids. They moved to Granton in 1963, where Joe was a long-time teacher/counselor at Granton Public Schools. He retired in 1994.
He is a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Neillsville, the American Legion Post #175 of Loyal, WI, the Southern Clark County Sportsman's Club and the Wisconsin Education Association.
He is survived by his wife, Donna, six children, Christopher Dachel of Rudolph, WI, Charles (Tracie) Dachel of Oak Creek, WI, Maria (Rick) Schwanebeck of Granton, WI, Jennifer (Will) Salzwedel of Chili, WI, Michael (Aimee) Dachel of Colorado Springs, CO, and Jonathan (Michelle) Dachel of Cheyenne, WY, fourteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and siblings Philip (Betty) Dachel of Rudolph, WI, Thomas (Sharon) Dachel of Port Edwards, WI, William (Katherine) Dachel of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Paul (Ellen) Dachel of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, and Margaret (Ron) Gutshall of Sparta, WI.
He was preceded in death by twin sons at birth, Jeffrey and Edward, two sons, Joseph J. (J.J.) and James, his parents Albert and Elizabeth Dachel, brother Andrew Dachel, sisters Susan Gremler and Barbara Frieberg, father-in-law and mother-in-law Granville and Monona Weaver, and in-laws Jerry Gremler, William Weaver, and Dawn Weaver.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 5, 2025, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Neillsville, WI. The Celebrant will be Fr. Greg Michaud. Music will be provided by Ben Salzwedel (grandson), Rebekah Lehn, organist and St. Mary's Choir. Interment will be in the Windfall Cemetery in Granton, with Military Honors performed by the Loyal American Legion. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church.
