Leona Simmons

Leona Simmons, age 88, of Neillsville, WI, passed on to her heavenly home, Friday, January 23, 2025, at the Riverside Assisted Living facility in Neillsville, WI.

Leona M. Lukowski was born on January 26, 1936, in Omaha, NE, the daughter of Leo and

Martha (Delski) Lukowski. She was united in marriage to the love of her life Eugene Francis Simmons on September 17, 1955, in Omaha, NE. They moved to Neillsville after they were married, and raised veal calves on their farm in Washburn Township. They shared 69 years of love, laughter, and partnership. Leona spent her life enjoying every moment with Gene. From working together on the farm to traveling the country together during their retirement. After Leona and Gene retired from farming, they started spending their winters in Arizona and always made sure to stop in Omaha along the way to see family. Leona also had love for art and created many stained-glass pieces and paintings that she took to craft shows and sold. Leona was a hard-working woman with a kind heart, who loved her family very much.

Leona touched the lives of everyone she met with her unwavering kindness, wisdom and generosity. Throughout her life she embodied a love for both simple pleasures and finding joy in everyday life and purpose in meaningful relationships over the years. Her family was the heart of her world and she cherished every moment spent with them. She is survived by her husband, Eugene, a sister, Donna Kroll, a brother, William Lukowski both of Omaha, NE and several loving nieces and nephews, along with good friends, Bev and Tom Short and Kenny and Jean Goetz. Leona had many close loving friends that have become a part of her family over the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Richard and a sister, Martha Jo and her close friends Robert and Florence Spiegel.

A graveside service in the Neillsville City Cemetery for Leona and Eugene will be held at a later date.
