Lloyd Duane Swenson

Lloyd Swenson, age 91, of Chili, WI died Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at his daughter’s residence in Cherry Valley, IL.

Lloyd Duane Swenson was born on July 14, 1926 in rural central Wisconsin the son of Elmer and Anna (Paul) Swenson. He attended school in Marshfield and Granton and then became a metal worker, specializing in welding. On August 23, 1947 he was united in marriage to Esther E. Keuer. They moved to Illinois in 1948 and Lloyd started and owned a small steel fabricating business. He retired in 1984 and he and Esther moved back to the home farm in Chili, and built the home where they currently lived.

Lloyd was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Granton. He was an amateur radio enthusiast with the call name, WA9QOY. He enjoyed gardening and was a beekeeper until five years ago. He could fix anything and loved to work on machinery.

He is survived by his wife, Esther, four children, Sharon (John) Wallheimer of Collinsville, IL, Richard (Rose) Swenson of Caledonia, IL, Susan (Craig) Wilt of Cherry Valley, IL and Cynthia (Paul) Schilf of Brandon, S.D. He is further survived by seven grandchildren, Christine (David) Korte, Heather (Joe) Hasenyager, Tayler (Becky) Swenson, Melissa (Josh) Newberry, Jennifer Wilt, Laura (Mike) Lind and Leah (Zachary) Hallstrom, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and a grandson, Peter Schilf.

Funeral services for Lloyd will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 25, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church in Granton, WI. Pastor Daniel Schoessow will officiate. Music will be provided by Ginny Kommer, organist. Interment will be in the Town of Lynn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Monday at the church.

Casket bearers will be: Paul Schilf, Zachary Hallstrom, Tayler Swenson, Josh Newberry, John Wallheimer, Mike Lind and Cameron Lind.
