Mary LaVeda Dux, age 68, of Neillsville WI passed away peacefully on October 29, 2023, while surrounded by her family at the Marshfield Medical Center, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mary was born on April 12, 1955, in Neillsville, WI, to Harry and Esther (Pretsch) King. She enjoyed living in the Neillsville community her entire life. Mary was raised on the family farm and received her education in the Neillsville area, graduating from Neillsville High School in 1973 as the class salutatorian. Mary continued taking post-graduation courses throughout her working career to further her knowledge.
While in high school, Mary worked for Ronald and Betty Meihack at the Penguin during the summers. In her senior year of high school, she was hired to do the payroll for the Neillsville Foundry, Inc.
On September 29, 1973, she married the love of her life, Eugene Michael Dux, at St John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville. Together they proudly raised two sons, Michael Eugene Dux (West Salem, WI), and Matthew Allen Dux (Sioux Falls, SD). Her daughter-in-law Brandi (Matthew) Dux, was like a daughter to her. Mary was incredibly blessed with four grandchildren: Everett Dux and Rory Dux (West Salem) and Emmalyn Dux and Clara Dux (Sioux Falls).
After marrying, Mary and her husband Eugene made their home in Neillsville. Together they had a hobby farm raising beef cattle and both worked off the farm. Mary continued to work for the Neillsville Foundry until leaving in 1980 to work for Production Credit Association in Neillsville as a farm records technician. When asked to return to work for the Neillsville Foundry, Mary did so in 1984 as the production scheduler and office manager. In 1990, Mary became a Clark County employee, first working as an account clerk in the Clerk of Courts, advancing to Deputy County Clerk in the County Clerk's Office, and finally as the payroll and benefits coordinator in the Department of Administration. In 2007, she began working for Citizens State Bank of Loyal at the Neillsville branch and worked until 2017 when she left to take care of her health issues.
Mary was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Neillsville. She served as the treasurer for the Calvary Lutheran Church Women's group. She helped with the financial bookkeeping of the church altar guild. The church and her church family were very important to Mary; they provided so much support to her through her cancer journey. Mary was also honored to serve the people of the Town of Weston, first as their Clerk and then later as the Treasurer. She was a member of the Over the Garden Gate Clark County Master Gardeners and loved working on community projects. Mary was a member of P.E.O. Chapter DJ., a sisterhood of friendship and loyalty promoting educational opportunities for women. She joined the Red Hats Society for fun and friendship.
In her free time, Mary enjoyed working in her flower garden or visiting gardens in the area. Flowers were her passion, and she loved to share their beauty with her friends and family. Those who knew Mary understood just how much she cared about every project that she was involved with, and Mary was always the person you turned to for help or support. Her love for crafts and cardmaking brought joy to her family and friends because of the amount of care and thought that went into every gift. Mary loved her family deeply and enjoyed every moment she could spend with them. She especially loved the UTV rides she could take with her husband, and every moment, occasion, or event spent with her grandchildren was cherished.
Mary is survived by her husband Eugene, sons Michael Dux and Matthew (Brandi) Dux; grandchildren Everett Dux, Rory Dux, Emmalyn Dux and Clara Dux; brother Jerry (Lynn) King of Neillsville; three sisters: Jeannette King of Mosinee, WI, Jean (Ken) Nicks of Boaz, WI, and Lori (Jim) Gentry of Oshkosh, WI; sister-in-law Kathy Wegner of Neillsville, WI; three brothers-in-law: Lawrence (Karen) of Pewaukee, WI, Leroy (Robin) Dux of Lakeland FL, and William (Angela) Dux of Combined Locks, WI; as well as many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother Harry and Esther King; father and mother in-law Everett and Angelyn Dux; brother-in-law Wayne Wegner and nephew Bradley Wegner.
