Mary Slemec, age 68, of Neillsville, WI died Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at the Marshfield Medical Center. Mary Carol Henning was born on February 1, 1949 in Neillsville, WI the daughter of Herbert and Leona (Seelow) Henning. She graduated from Neillsville High School in 1967 and was united in marriage to Robert M. Slemec on December 5, 1970 in Chicago, IL. In 1975, they purchased the family farm from Mary’s parents and farmed there most of their lives. Mary was a hard-working farmwife who helped milk cows and bale hay while also doing the housework. On November 2, 2001 Bob died. Mary started working at Bob & Caryl’s IGA in 2006; she sold the farm to her son, Adam in 2012 and retired from Hansen’s IGA last year after 10 years of service. Mary was a member of Pine Valley – Zion Lutheran Church in Neillsville. She is survived by four children, Brenda (Bob) Zawacki of Eau Claire, WI, Lisa (Crispin) Hediger of Neillsville, WI, Greg (Sarah) Slemec of Eau Claire, WI and Adam (Michelle) Slemec of Neillsville, WI, thirteen grandchildren, Jim (Hailey), Joe (Jessie), Elizabeth (fiancé, Lucas Hestekin) and Emily Zawacki, Cole and Mackenzie Hediger, Alexis, Kathryn, Finn, Landin, Joseph, Caleb and Collin Slemec, four great grandchildren, Jaxon, Maclairyn, Croix and Everett, a sister, Ardis Zank of Neillsville, WI, a brother, Robert (Donna) Henning of Phoenix, AZ and a sister-in-law, Marie Henning of Neillsville, WI. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, an infant daughter, Linda Kay, her parents and a brother, Ronald Henning. Funeral Services for Mary will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 30, 2017 at the Pine Valley – Zion Lutheran Church in Neillsville. Pastor Chad Anderson will officiate. Music will be provided by Dr. Beverly Kraly, organist, Interment will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday at the Gesche Funeral Home and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Monday at the church.
