Richard Kenneth Gall passed away peacefully while in hospice care, following a short illness and complications from falling. We're heart-broken to lose such a devoted husband, dedicated father, good friend, and caring neighbor. Everyone knew him by his nickname Dick. He truly loved and made family the center of his whole life. And he was always looking after friends and neighbors.
Dick grew up in Milwaukee and in his early twenties married Sharon Schroeder. Last summer, they celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. Dick's commitment to taking care of Sherry was unwavering and inspiring to the very end. They had two sons, Rick and Terry, who couldn't be more proud of their parents' love and kindness. Dick worked most of his life in machine shops and became an expert welder. He spent decades at Super Steel and talked about how he worked on locomotives. Dick moved the family from Milwaukee to Hartland in 1977, and they remained there for 24 years. After retiring, he and Sherry moved to a quiet, wooded area in the Town of Sherwood, where the Gall family had once owned a farm.
Dick loved spending time with family, and vacations were a big deal. For years, we went boating, skiing, swimming, and fishing on Okauchee Lake. Then, we began to venture out-of-state with trips across the country. The long road trips out West made for memories lasting a lifetime. Dick looked forward to being outdoors ... camping with the scouts, hunting with family and friends, and riding his four-wheeler. He always seemed to find peace and happiness in the woods. And in his manicured yard, which was certainly a source of pride. Dick also enjoyed sports and especially the Brewers. One year, he went to more than 30 games. He's long boasted about the foul ball he snagged off the bat of Robin Yount. It was a line drive that nearly broke his hand. And a number of us will never forget bowling and playing cards with him. His emotions would run high. Win or lose, he made us all smile.
Dick is survived by his wife Sharon; sons Terry of Menomonie and Rick (Pam) of Phoenix, AZ; brother Bob (Jan) Gall of Honolulu, HI, sister Phyllis Zingler of Brookfield, and sister-in-law Deborah Gall of Sullivan. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents Roland and Lucille Gall; sister Barbara and her husband Ronald Brown, brother Jim Gall, and brother-in-law Gary Zingler.
