Sylvia Ruth Sagen was born to her parents, Edgar John and Eleanor Johanna (Epding) Sagen, on August 31, 1945 in Neillsville, Wisconsin. Sylvia lived her entire life in her home on W. 19th Street.
Sylvia received her primary and secondary education in the Neillsville school district, completing high school with the class of 1964. She immediately entered the work force waiting on tables at the, then, Silver Dome Supper Club and the Arbutus Café.
During the 1965/1966 school year, the School District of Neillsville was looking for a new cook. Sylvia's previous work in the kitchen as a cook's helper during her high school years, provided enough experience to overcome the perception, back then, that "there was a good possibility that she would get married and quit her job".
Sylvia never married, perhaps because she had thousands of children to associate with over time, and enough around her every day, to cook and bake for. She truly lived out her neighborhood nickname of "Cookie"! And after 41 years of service, Sylvia retired in 2007.
Before her mother's passing, the two of them traveled to Alaska, which became one of Sylvia's favorite destinations. Being open minded, she expanded her travels to dozens of trips to New York and Hawaii. Then she continued to visit locations around the world including Canada, England, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Greece, China, and finally, the Panama Canal.
Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Edgar J. Sagen II. She is survived by her two sisters, Dorothy (Jim) Ripke of Nekoosa, WI; and Barbara (Richard) Volovsek of Eagan, MN; more than a dozen nieces and nephews; and their descendants.
